Fans of Spain's best known artists will should consider a visit to this Granada exhibit from March, 2008.
Plan your visit to the Alhambra and see some of Spain's finest works of art on display. If you’ve never been to the Alhambra Palace in Granada and you’re a fan of Picasso, Dali and Lorca, 2008 could be the year to schedule a visit.
An amazing collection of works by these three famous Spaniards is being organised to coincide with the 80th anniversary of Gallo, a local magazine about Granada culture.
Frederico Garcia Lorca, a local of Granada and some of his contemporaries founded Gallo, and in 1928 the first magazine was published. Only two magazines ever got to print. The first issue was produced as a supplement to “El defensor de Granada” a newspaper of the day.
On display in the exhibiiton will be drawings and letters from Lorca to his friends showing the initiation of the magazine and asking for their collaboration to his new venture, Gallo.
Some of Pablo Ruiz Picasso’s paintings from his “happy period” following his marriage to Olga Koklova will be on display, these featured in the second edition of Gallo.
The presentation will have some works by Salvador Dali which are presently on display in the Monastery at Monserrat and the Reina Sofia Museum in Madrid.
After being on display at the Alhambra in March 2008 the exhibition will then be shown in the Residencia de Estudiantes in Madrid.
The exhibition will portray cultural life in a Spanish city, specifically Granada during Lorca’s time in the 1920s, it will commemorate not only a magazine that published only two editions, although a third one was under production, but will hopefully bring a growing awareness and respect for these great men of Spanish soil, without whom our knowledge of Spanish history would be below par.
The birthplace of Lorca not far from the city center is now a fascinating museum of his life and works and is well worth adding to your travel itinerary, while in Granada.
If the Alhambra becomes one of the new seven wonders of the world, on 07/07/07 then it’s popularity is going to increase dramatically so, if you hope to make a trip in 2008 to Granada and the Alhambra, it’s never too early to make those plans.
