Accomodation in Tarifa offers some fabulous places to stay that will make a beach holiday in Spain more exciting. Look for the extras that offer something special.

The golden sands of Tarifa, in the province of Cadiz, make the area very attractive for a beach holiday in Spain. Accomodation in Tarifa is still reasonably inexpensive and there is a range of unusual places to stay, all offering something extra.

Posada Vagamundos

A cute restored 18th century building which was originally part of a nearby church, this hotel is a mix of old and new. Many of the original features such as the huge beams and thick walls have been incorporated into the restoration of the building and although the rooms have modern comforts, it feels a bit like sleeping in a convent ! Tthere is a wi-fi area with free internet access, unusual in the more rural hotels in Spain.

Double en suite room in the summer season costs 115 euros (US$158) which includes breakfast. The café also serves lunch and dinner, with a menu of traditional Spanish food from the Cadiz region and international dishes.

El Escondite del Viento (The Hiding Place of the Wind)

Boutique hotel with 6 double rooms in the historical part of Tarifa. Prepare to be surprised by the modern use of glass, steel and wood which makes this a unique hotel in Spain. Check out the reading room, too. If the beach holiday includes adventure, the hotel will arrange boat hire.

Book the penthouse room with a private terrace overlooking the roofs of the old town. Prices from 110euros (US$150) including breakfast which is served until 1pm.

La Estrella de Tarifa

An elegant hotel of 9 rooms, in the historical part of the old town, decorated beautifully in Moroccan style. Prices start at 90euros (US$124) for a double room in the summer season, including breakfast. An unusual feature for hotels in Spain is that pets are allowed here at a small extra charge.

Koala

A gracious old Tarifa townhouse recently converted. Set around a typical Andalusian courtyard, 5 apartments can be reached by staircases. Ask for one with access to the garden or to the tiny solarium. All apartments have a living area with a TV and DVD, their own kitchen and bathroom. Costs from 80euros (US$ 110) per night or 140 euros (US$ 193) for an apartment that sleeps 4, including breakfast buffet.

Banti Tarifa

For a romantic beach holiday, go outside of Tarifa town, on the N340 to Banti. This colourful new guesthouse has 6 double rooms all with private bathrooms. Price are from 96 euros (US$ 132) including continental breakfast which can be eaten in the garden or on the terrace.

After a swim, chill out in a hammock in the garden, and expect live music on summer evenings.
