Valladolid is a couple of hours’ drive north-west of Madrid in the heart of central Spain, and is a destination worth visiting in its own right. It’s a historic city, and for a brief time was the capital of imperial Spain. Valladolid was also the city in which legendary explorer Christopher Columbus died, and the house in which he lived has been preserved and opened to tourists.
