The Sunniest Corner of Spain Boasts the Warmest Climate in Europe

Finding sunshine in Spain is a year-round possibility and nowhere more so than in Murcia, the land of sunshine. Murcia, Spain’s smallest autonomous region, lies on the Mediterranean Sea. This part of the coastline is known as the Costa Calida or Warm Coast.
Murica is tucked away in the south-east corner of the Spanish mainland between the coastal provinces of Almeria and Alicante both of which have international airports.
But what makes Murcia really special is its fabulous climate. The records show that over 300 days of sunshine a year - making an average of one day a week without it, and that doesn’t necessarily mean rain – just no sun!
With average winter temperatures of 15 to 20ºC and clear skies that allow around 2,800 hours of sunshine a year this is the place to come for water sports, golfing holidays or just sheer relaxation.
And where better to relax than the shallow salty waters of the Mar Menor, Europe’s largest saltwater lagoon. Once open to the sea, Mar Menor – Small Sea - is now a coastal lake of 170 km2 of warm saltwater. These waters being high in salt content are used for their curative properties and as a practice area for many water sports such as canoeing and windsurfing.
If relaxing in comfort is more your style then the salt water and mud that has been used for healing skin complains, rheumatism and arthritis for centuries can now be found as the base for treatments in the wealth of luxury spas in the area.
