Playa Del Ingles, Meloneras or Playa de Amadores? What have these beach resorts on the Spainish island of Gran Canaria got to offer?

One of Spain's busiest holiday destinations,Gran Canaria, is a paradise with almost constant sunshine and consistent temperatures all year round; it's the perfect place to go for a quick winter getaway or a lazy summer beach break.

With six main resorts to choose from Gran Canaria is an ideal destination; it's just a matter of deciding which one will make that holiday dream come true.

Playa Del Ingles: For Easy Mobility and Wild Nightlife

Playa Del Ingles was the first centre in the major growth movement of the tourist industry on Gran Canaria and remains one of the most popular areas for repeat visitors. Its flat, widely paved streets make it an excellent choice for any visitor with mobility difficulties or for those who just prefer a less strenous getting-about activity. Playa Del Ingles is notorious for its outstanding nightlife facilities.

Meloneras: The Best Choice for a Luxury Hotel

Meloneras is the newest of the holiday hot spots on Gran Canaria. Its huge array of highly deluxe five star hotels cater for a very discerning clientele, with the most popular option being those with built in spas and wellness centres. The entire area is maintained to a high level of cleanliness that borders on the obsessive, but which makes it a pleasant place to stay.

Maspalomas: A Beach Paradise

Home of Gran Canaria's most famous landmark, the dune formation and natural oasis;Maspalomas is a hugely spread out area that also encompasses two of the islands more popular golf courses. Its main attraction for visitors is the seemingly never-ending stretch of sand, almost six kilometres including the nudist section, which makes this the perfect base for sun lovers looking for a good beach holiday destination.

Puerto Rico: For an Economic Holiday

This unique resort has been constructed around the hillsides of what once was a barren valley. A sheltered cove with a small beach and twin harbour facilities, Puerto Rico is a well-liked haunt with families for its abundance of economical self-catering apartment complexes. Because of its nautical atmosphere it's ideal for boating, surfing or diving fanatics. Puerto Rico's one main setback is the numerous and steep stone steps that need to be climbed to reach any of the major amenities.

Playa de Amadores: Pristine Beach

A tiny and only recently developed bay with a white-corral sand beach that is spotlessly clean and rigorously maintained. Playa de Amadores is one of the few places in the south of Gran Canaria that has adequate parking and toilet facilities. The choice of accommodation is limited to one major hotel and a few holiday ownership complexes.

Puerto de Mogan: Just to get away from it all

This small and tranquil marina is the furthest resort from the airport; private apartments and hospitable pensions are the main choice for places to stay in Puerto de Mogan as there is only one hotel of mentionable size. Many people return here to stay after a day visit on a previous holiday, just to enjoy its quietness and unique character.
